More than likely you’ve heard about pet insurance, and this is actually a type of insurance that is not just for dogs. You can also purchase cat health insurance to keep your cat protected. As your cats begin to age, you never know what kind of physical problems they may have, from illnesses to injuries. For this reason, there are many owners that have found cat health insurance an important expense. Insurance is extremely affordable and you need only pay a reasonable monthly fee. Also, animal health insurance proposes lower cost medical exams which is advantageous to physical well being.

Cats Have Lower Insurance Rates than Dogs

The great thing about having a cat is that they have lower insurance rates than dogs. If you start your cat in a health insurance plan while it is young, you’ll also save money. As long as it never has any serious illnesses the insurance rates will continue to be low. However, if it gets injured or becomes ill, you’ll have something to fall back on to help pay many bills.

Routine Checkups and More

As your cat continues to age the health insurance is going to come in handy. You’ll need to have routine checkups and there may be some other procedures needed along the way. Having cat health insurance will help you afford the checkups and preventive health care that your cat will need.

Making Your Cat’s Prescriptions Affordable

If you are a cat owner, one of the most expensive things to pay for can be its prescription drugs. Whether you cat needs a prescription after a procedure or due to an injury, it can really get quite expensive. As your cat gets older, it may need drugs to help with arthritis or other health conditions. These medications can get expensive and may cost more than $100 each month. However, if you have insurance for your cat the prescriptions may be covered by the insurance company.

Pure Bred Cats Really Benefit

If you have a pure bred cat, then you stand to really achieve significant benefits from having cat health insurance. You see, many pure bred cats, as well as dogs, have specific physical problems that occur later in their lives. This can get expensive as your cat grows older, so having the cat insurance can really save you money as you endeavor to care for your pure bred feline.

Being proactive rather than reactive will give you an edge.

It is important that you don’t wait until your cat gets injured or sick to begin thinking about health insurance. You can save a huge amount of money by insuring your cat now. Yes, you’ll be paying on a monthly basis, but the benefits of the insurance are enormous.

In summation, you may be risking your cat’s life if an unexpected sizable health expense surfaces and you are not prepared.

Yes, cat health insurance can make the difference between risking your cat’s life to euthanasia and being able to afford proper health care.

by John Foley

It seems that Pet Health Insurance is getting a lot of attention in the press and on the internet these days. It is a simple, affordable solution for those who love their pets but are concerned about the financial hardship of high-quality pet care. Pet health insurance is peace of mind that protects you and your beloved pet from the inevitable and the unexpected. This type of insurance is still relatively new, and many pet owners are still unaware of their options.

Pet health insurance is designed to provide pet owners with coverage for unexpected illnesses or incidents resulting in expensive veterinary costs. While pet health care insurance may seem like something that only movie stars get for their Hollywood pets, it is becoming more mainstream and is being offered for very reasonable prices. So wherever you happen to live in the United States, insurance is really important, especially if you happen to have more than one pet.

Pet health insurance is particularly of use in an emergency, such as when a pet is involved in a road traffic accident and needs surgery. X-rays and operations can soon add up to well over thousands of dollars, meaning that this insurance is necessary to prevent having to payout such large sums if and when such an accident occurs. There are many benefits of having pet insurance for your dog or your cat and this is why pet health insurance is becoming increasingly popular in this day and age.

Coverage

Coverage and cost vary, so it’s important to thoroughly research the options if you decide to insure your pet. Coverage usually starts at eight weeks, but some plans won’t cover pets over a certain age (usually between six and 10 years old, depending on the breed, type of animal and other factors). Coverage options range from catastrophic accident coverage to comprehensive illness coverage.

Pet health policies are similar to human insurance policies; annual premiums, deductibles, and different coverage plans based on what the owner chooses. When you purchase pet health insurance, it acts much like those plans meant for us in that the coverage usually starts right away but there may be a waiting period before the benefits kick in.

As for pre-existing conditions, some companies will allow coverage if the animal is stable or controlled (usually after a waiting period of 3 to 12 months), other companies will refuse animals with current conditions or terminal disease. Some policies (but not all) cover some preventative care, such as vaccinations, but there may be additional cost for this coverage. It’s important to review your policy terms and conditions to ensure you have the right coverage for your pet.

When choosing pet insurance coverage, first consider what kind of insurance customer you are. Do you prefer all-inclusive coverage that pays for everything from routine checkups and vaccinations to accidents and chronic illnesses, or are you comfortable with a lesser degree of coverage that just kicks in during emergencies. You can usually decide what kind and how much coverage to provide for your pet. So getting your pet health insurance is not really all that insane, and in the long run it could save you a great deal of money.

The cheapest way to take out pet health insurance is online; by going with a specialist insurer they can shop around on your behalf and get you the cheapest premiums with the best deals. If you are planning to have a pet for the rest for your life, then getting a pet health insurance is indeed a very wise decision.

With the increasing cost of veterinary care, pet health insurance is an absolute must for any pet owner today. As the cost of veterinary care continues to increase, pet health insurance is quickly gaining popularity in the US. All in all though, it depends on you, and your pet(s), whether or not pet health insurance is the right choice.

We know enough to care for our skin and keep dermatitis at bay. Just as in humans a dog allergy can be very painful and uncomfortable. A dog allergy can be extremely trying for both dog and owner. Unlike dogs, we look after our allergies, mainly because we are able to.

It’s quite possible, when your dog has an allergy; it’s something he/she will have for life. While difficult to diagnose, it’s important to beware of your dog’s signs if you’re to provide effective relieve to your dog’s allergies. Rarely will dogs grow out of their allergies, plus, it’s also unlikely that dog allergies are one-off.

Generally, most dog allergies can be traced back to a dog’s diet. If the symptoms that your dog displays, leads to confusing diagnoses, it’s best to seek advice from your veterinarian. Your first priority when dealing with your dog’s allergies should be a visit to the vet.

The sooner one acts, and starts treating their dog’s allergies the easier and less stressful it will be in the long run. Properly treating the symptoms of your dog’s allergies will certainly bring relief to your dog, but dealing with the cause of your dog’s allergy should greatly reduce distress in your dog.

Some believe using natural diets and treatments offer less harmful side effects than conventional commercial based products. More and more dog owners are looking to natural solutions in the treatment of their dog’s allergies. While it’s always advised that you seek the advice of your Veterinarian when treating dog allergies, it can also be well worth looking to some alternative methods. In the book, “Veterinary Secrets Revealed” (available at http://veterinary-secrets-revealed.com), Dr. Andrew Jones focuses on alternative home treatments for dog allergies. According to Dr. Jones, allergies are one of the most common reasons that he sees pets.

A simple change in what your dog eats, plays with or sleeps on, could be all that is needed to put an end to your dog’s pain. The use of medicated shampoos or creams on your dog’s dry or itchy skin may play a key role in making your dog less susceptible to allergies. Without a doubt, preventing your dog’s allergies is by far, a much better option than constantly trying to cure what ails them. Treatment of dog allergies is an on-going process, while prevention is better in the long run.

Remember, it is essential that you be proficient in spotting the signs in order to correctly control and treat your dog’s allergies. So, if your dog is itching or scratching more than usual, shedding its skin, or suffer from unexplainable sores, then it is more than likely your dog has an allergy of some sort and a trip to the vet is advised.

By Grant Copland

Pet health insurance is simple, affordable solution for those owners who love their pets but is concerned about the financial hardship of high-quality pet care. It brings peace of mind, protecting you and your beloved pet from the inevitable and the unexpected. It is still relatively new, and many pet owners are still unaware of their choices. By going though the components of a typical pet health insurance policy, you will know what to look for when selecting the right pet insurance policy for you.

The principal component and the number one reason for people insurance their pets, is to cover vet fees. The majority of pet insurance companies will quote the vet fees as an amount per incidents, illness or condition. The vet fees listing will be one for three types.

Type 1: Time & Fee Limit

This type of cover has a time limit over which the condition can be claimed (usually 12 months) and a maximum payout amount per condition. One the time limit or dollar amount has been reached the condition is no longer covered. This is commonly referred to as a “12 month policy”.

Type 2: Fee Limit but No Time Limit

This type of cover has a maximum limit on the amount paid per condition but no time limit. Therefore, you can claim on this condition for as long as it takes to reach the conditions limit.

Type 3: Fee Limit per Year

This type of cover has a maximum limit on the amount paid per condition per year. The amount is reset each year when the policy is renewed. This is commonly referred to as “cover for life policy”.

A pet health insurance policy can cover (sometimes as an option):

Treatment of your pet for illness, accidents or disease

Payment for accidental death

Payment for death by illness

Advertising and Reward if you pet gets lost or is stolen

Third-party liability cover (usually dogs only)

Pet boarding cost if you are in hospital for a length of time

Holiday cancellation cover if you pet is lost, injured or ill while you are away

Pet Travel cover

Alternative Treatments

Basic routine care

Dental

Telephone Helplines

A pet health insurance policy will not only vary in the level of cover offered but different companies have their own additions, conditions and exclusions. One needs to look at the pros and cons of a particular product offering carefully, and compare it with other pet health insurance products before deciding.

It is important when choosing pet health insurance to select a policy which matches your desired cover with your budget. The higher your level of cover, the more expensive the policy will become. The breed of your pet, the pet’s age and your location will affect the cost of your pet health insurance policy. Generally, cats insurance is cheaper than dogs. Policies are contracted and quoted on a yearly basis as a one off annual charge or spread over twelve months.

All pet insurance policies will include an excess. An excess is an amount you pay before the insurance company starts paying. The excess is used to keep the policy cost down and to stop people making small claims that take up time and money to process. Companies will charge an excess per claim as either a fixed amount or a percentage amount. You may elect to pay a higher excess to help reduce the cost of pet insurance.

Although pet health insurance may appear expensive a first, consider the cost of veterinarian treatment if you pet has a serious accident or illness. If you are the type of owner who considers their pet an essential part of the family, pet health insurance makes financial sense.

Dog insurance can be a complicated matter for some, but it needn’t be anymore…

Most dog owners spend on average $479 on pet bills in one year alone with the price rising more and more each year. Dogs are one of the most expensive dogs to keep and within minutes of your dog having an injury you could be faced with the decision of whether you want to put your dog down, or fork out a not uncommon $5000 for repairs to help you pet have a better life.

There are normally three different types of pet insurance to get that can cost anywhere from $10 to $30 a month but each type has its own benefits and can save you hundreds if not thousands of dollars.

Routine coverage is the most basic and covers Annual physical exams, vaccinations,

Heart worm detection & treatment; spay/neuter procedure, teeth cleaning, prescription medication for flea control, and general comprehensive health screen.

Major medical coverage is for more serious incidents and thus more financially draining injuries and health problems. This covers Accidents and Serious Illnesses, MRI, CAT Scans, and X-rays, Surgeries, Hospitalization, Removal of ingested foreign objects, and Snake bite treatments.

The third coverage is for cancer related issues and coverage for this as well will cost extra on top of the other options and covers Chemotherapy, Radiation treatment, and post-treatment medications and nutritional supplements.

By Ron Petracek

Whether you are the owner of a single horse, the proprietor of a boarding stable, or a horse trainer, chances are you should be protected by equine insurance. The question is, what type of insurance do you need, and how much? We’ve outlined several different types of equine insurance below. Before making any final decisions, always consult with your insurance agent and/or your lawyer to determine the type and amount of coverage you need.

Individual Horse Owner’s Liability

If you are an individual horse owner, it is important to be covered for any property or bodily damage that you horse might cause. Sometimes your homeowner’s policy will cover damages caused by your horse, so check your policy carefully. If your policy does not cover these things, contact an equine insurer to determine what types of additional coverage you need. How much do you need? That depends on your situation and your agent, or a lawyer, can help you. A good rule of thumb is the more personal assets you have, the more coverage you need. Coverage should include the promise to pay all sums you are legally obligated to pay for bodily injury and property damage arising from horse ownership, plus the cost to defend you.

Commercial Equine Liability

Commercial liability is needed by those who perform any commercial equine activities such as boarding, instruction, training, and breeding. This coverage protects you in the case you are sued by a third party who is injured or whose property is damaged. As any damage that exceeds your policy limits will come out of your personal assets. Again, the more personal assets you have, the more coverage you need.

Equine Professional Liability Coverage

If you derive any income from horses, this type of insurance provides coverage and defense fees resulting from any negligent act, error, or omission by the insured’s professional equine activities.

Mortality

This is the type of insurance that can be most confusing to the horse owner. Whether or not to insure your horse, and for how much, basically boils down to how much you need the horse, whether you can afford to replace him, and your risk tolerance. If your horse is a source of revenue to you, chances are you will want to insure him for his full value. In contrast, you may be able to afford to replace your beloved family pleasure horse (we’re talking money here, not emotionally!) and insuring this horse might not be worth the premiums. A mortality policy pays the actual value of the horse at the time of the accident or illness causing the horse’s death, not to exceed the value specified in the policy.

Major Medical

This type of insurance is available to horses insured for mortality. Major medical insurance reimburses the veterinarian’s fees for surgery, major illness, and disease. Because these things can be quite expensive, major medical is worth it to the horse owner without a lot of cash on hand. Deductible and per year limits vary by policy.

Loss of Use

This is an important type of insurance for those who use their horses for livelihood. It covers you in the case that your horse becomes totally and permanently incapable of fulfilling the functions for which it is used. Most policies pay a percentage of the horse’s value when it has been determined that it can not be used in the way stated on the policy. Many policies reserve the right to take the animal upon payment. Other policies pay a percentage but still allow you to keep your horse.

These are some of the more common types of insurance available to horse owners. For insurance tailored to your specific individual or business needs, contact an equine insurance specialist.

Imagine coming home after a hectic day at work and being greeted by wagging tail, sloppy licks and enthusiastic yelps. Yes, having a four legged friend at home can really make all the difference to your world. No matter how tired you may be feeling, a welcoming bark can really lift your sagging spirit like nothing else can. A dog is indeed man’s best friend and the sense of loyalty and undisguised love that it displays is sure to drive away any doubt that you may have felt about keeping a dog as a pet. However, unlike a kid that will grow up sooner or later, a dog will always remain that baby which is forever dependent on you for its very existence. It will eat when you give it food, go out for a walk when you decide to take it, be pampered when you feel like it or perhaps be whacked when you are in an irritable mood.

Considering all these facts, it goes without saying that all pet owners would indeed give their right arm for their pet’s welfare. However, how many of us have actually considered getting dog insurance for our beloved companions? Just like we would think about insuring our lives or our precious assets like property, it is only natural that our precious pet should also have a dog insurance. Contrary to popular belief, dog insurance is not just insuring the life of a pet, but also the very well being of your devoted pet. A reputed company offering dog insurance will definitely offer a huge variety of plans that should incorporate your pets every need. Dog insurance from a reliable company should cover not only expensive medical treatment but also the regular check ups at the veterinary clinic.

Dog insurance can cover any kind of expense related to your pet, including cost of regular vaccinations and medication. Veterinary care can be an expensive process and a lack of funds should not come in the way of owners providing the best care for their pets. Also, as pet owners we know that medical science has made much improvement in the field of veterinary medicine and many diseases which were earlier believed to be incurable, now can easily be treated with the right medication and treatment. However, some of these treatments are really expensive and can place the owner in a financial crunch if no funds are kept aside for such contingencies. Dog insurance can indeed be a boon in circumstances such as these, where the very life of the pet depends on the expensive treatment and medication.

Dog insurance from a reputed company can also provide for some unusual situations wherein you may have to bear an expense on behalf of a pet. An example would be a scenario where your pet is lost and you need to bring out an advertisement announcing your pet’s details and perhaps a reward for its return. The pet insurance company can also be liable to pay for such expenses if the plan that you have chosen, covers such circumstances. Many pet insurance companies offering dog insurance, cat insurance and other pet insurance also have their online websites, wherein as an owner, you can simply fill up a form and get a free quote for the various plans.

If you have not already realized, the costs of veterinary care is escalating. By purchasing a pet insurance for our pets is also a wise choice to keep pet care costs within an affordable range. As pets become an important member of our family, purchasing a pet insurance is one of the ways to ensure our pets in getting the best care it possibly deserves.

Here are the 4 simple steps to purchase your pet insurance

1) Pet Insurance Online

Since most pet insurance companies have their own websites, one of the best ways to begin your research in pet insurance is to look for them online. When you do so, you will find a wide variety of insurance options and pricing. Some companies will even give you an additional discount if you purchase their pet insurance online.

However the first thing you should do is to select a number of pet insurance companies and make sure that you only deal with those reputable companies. Therefore check to see if each company is truly legitimate by going through them with The Better Business Bureau website.

Looking for a pet insurance online enables you to look for a policy that suits your needs faster. It is also more accurate because you have access to thousands of different sites. With this much information that can be gotten so easily you will able to make an informed decision in purchasing a proper pet insurance.

2) Pet Insurance Ratings

Since the internet is so easy to access, there will also be just as many scams regarding pet insurance companies. With thousands of pet insurance websites, there is also another method to get the best pet insurance that most suits your needs. That method is by looking at the pet insurance ratings.

By reading the pet insurance ratings you are able to tell which the best pet insurance company is and which insurance company to avoid. If you look at the pet insurance ratings, you can be sure to get what you pay for.

If you are wondering where to look for the pet insurance ratings, you can find most of them done online by independent companies. This is the best done by independent companies because you know that they aren’t biased and therefore they are going to give you great information.

3) Pet Insurance Quote

Pet insurance quotes are available since 1928. Today there are numerous pet insurance quotes for you to decide one that most suitable for you and your pet. Furthermore if you get a pet insurance quote with a complete explanation from several carriers will be a very wise choice to make.

i) You can start by getting a pet insurance quote from your veterinarian. In turn, your veterinarian may offer a discount plan intended specially for his clients, or he may recommend a locally based plan that would be more suitable for you and your pet. This sort of pet insurance may be better for you than one of the bigger plans, depending on both your financial means and the breed of your dog.

ii) You can also choose to shop around and ask for pet insurance quotes from different insurance companies. When you ask for different pet insurance quotes, you will have a solid basis when you compare the services and prices of the insurance companies.

One of the reasons for getting several pet insurance quotes from different companies is that often congenital and hereditary illnesses or pre-existing conditions are not covered by pet insurance. Therefore it is best that you do a thorough research and consult your veterinarian.

iii) After you have found reliable pet insurance companies that may meet you and your pet’s needs, narrow down to at least five of them. The reason being the more pet insurance quotes you have, the more difficult it is for you to make a choice. If you want to simplify things, you can narrow down your choices right from the start.

4) Compare Pet Insurance

Since there so many pet insurance companies, you will be faced with numerous options. Therefore for you to get the best value for your money you need to compare pet insurance options and policies to see which policy is most suited for you.

Before you start your comparison:

i) You must have a general idea about what options you need for your pet. For example, basic plans are the cheapest but they also cover only the basic emergency and illness care.

ii) You also need to look at things such as deductibles, copays, and lifetime limits.

iii) You need to find out how a claim is filed and how the claim is paid. It is also useful to know what items are excluded and what items have payment limits placed on them.

iv) You should find out if you are allowed to visit the vet of your choice or do you have to use a vet recommended by them.

v) Do also find out which ones cover after hours emergencies such as accidents and sudden serious illness and that if the accident or illness is serious and your pet may require a specialist.

When you find the policy that you feel is most suitable for you then all you have to do is fill out their form which gives them your pet’s information. The pet insurance company may also set up to accept payment online.
